MAAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: It did not take the Mountaineers long to earn a weekly award in their new conference. Quinnipiac was tabbed as the league favorite, followed by Niagara, Fairfield, Siena, Iona, Marist, Rider, Manhattan, the Mount, Canisius and Saint Peter's. The Mountaineers were picked ninth in the annual MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll. Mary's was announced as the 11 th member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) on May 2 after a 33-year run in the Northeast Conference. WELCOME TO THE MAAC: In addition to having a new head coach, the Mount will also be competing in a new conference this season. MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS GAME: Saturday's game against Hampton, the Mount is spreading awareness for mental health. This is the fourth time the Mount has had three ties in a season, joining the 2010, 20 teams. The program record for ties in a season is four set by the 2005 team. After a 2-0 setback at Towson, the Mount earned a 1-1 tie with Radford on September 1 at Waldron Family Stadium. It is the first time in program history that the team has opened the year with consecutive draws. The Mount opened the season with back-to-back ties against Western Carolina and Robert Morris. RESULTS IN A DRAW: The Mountaineers have played to a 1-1 draw in three of the first four games this season. The Mount outshot Hampton, 18-to-13, in the win, while goalkeeper Maggie Barron made seven saves. The Mount's Kayla Hughes scored on a breakaway in the 88 th minute to round out the scoring in the game. Jenna West followed with a pair of goals to make it 3-0 before Hampton's Michelle Zilberman scored in the 87 th minute. After a scoreless first half, Marcella Fegler put the Mount ahead in the 57 th minute. LAST TIME AGAINST HAMPTON: The Mountaineers earned a 4-1 win at Hampton on August 27, 2017, in the last meeting in the all-time series. ![]() VCU, 0-1-1 against George Mason and 0-2 vs. Against CAA former members the Mount is 1-6-0 against American, 0-1 vs. Against current CAA members, the Mount is 2-12-0 vs. Mary's is 5-25-1 all-time the Colonial Athletic Association, including a 2-0 loss at Towson on August 28. In 2016, the Mountaineers rolled to a 7-0 win over the Pirates at home, and then followed the next season with a 4-1 road victory. ![]() Mary's holds a 2-0 lead in the all-time series with Hampton, posting victories in 20.
